TAD-601 Telemetry Unit

Overview

The TAD-601 is a telemetry system allowing the remote monitoring of up to 7 analogue and digital signals.

Physical details

The unit is housed in a small aluminium extruded enclosure measuring 80 x 60 x 30mm. It has screw terminals for all connections via a 10 way pluggable screw terminal block. The unit is not waterproof.

Configuration

All configuration of input types, sample rates and warning thresholds is carried out through a secure website. For each input the following can be configured:

• Input type (see below)

• Sensor offset

• Sensor gain

• Sensor units

• Sensor name

• Sampling rate

Power supply

The unit is powered from 8-32V DC and require a quiescent current of 25mA with peaks of up to 2A. There is a separate enable or ignition input with delayed shutdown. Shutdown current consumption is 10uA.

Inputs

The unit has 6 multiple-function inputs. Each can be individually configured from the website to measure the following signal types:

• 0-40V 10mV resolution

• 0-10V 2.5mV resolution

• 0-2V 0.5mV resolution

• 4-20mA current loop 4uA resolution (sensor must source current)

• 0-200ohm resistance 0.1 ohm resolution

• Digital input with variable threshold

• Pulse counter with variable threshold max rate 100Hz

There is also a single digital pulse / frequency input capable of counting pulses and measuring frequencies up to 10kHz.

Data Sampling

Data is sampled at a rate of 1Hz. Minimum, maximum and average values for each period are recorded and sent to the sever once per hour. This period can be configured to be between 1 minute and 24 hours.

Communications

The unit has an inbuilt quad band GSM module. GPRS communications are used to transmit the data to a secure database server from where it can be accessed through the Internet.

Website Data Access

All data received at the server is converted into engineering units using offset and gain parameters entered during device configuration. The website allows access to all data logged in the last year. Data can be downloaded for specified date ranges in CSV format for analysis in excel, matlab or similar  and custom analysis tools can be provided to allow customer specific data analysis.

Threshold Alerts

Upper and lower limits can be configured which will generate email alerts from the server to up to ten addresses in the event of excursion beyond these limits. The thresholds can be set independently for each channel.
